Sheepherding Clancy

I have a Boyds bear and two counting sheep #100 and #1/2 on my bed. My cat Clancy seems to think the bear belongs to him and herds the sheep to the hallway, bathroom, living room or where ever he chooses and then comes over to me - for praise? Turn your sound volume up.

23 Things n'@-- Reflections Week 12, Final Week

I really enjoyed this course and found myself looking forward to the to the weekly “thing” assignments. I feel great that I made the time to complete all 23 things. I was familiar with some of the “things” but I also learned other technologies that I might not use, but I can help patrons or co-workers use them. I was especially amazed at how much I love facebook and how addicting it has become.

Since I am an IT person I have to leave you with one more look at this video from the 23 things blog--drum roll please!

23 Things n'@-- Reflections Week 11

Podcasting

I subscribed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Podcast "Pittsburgh Hear and Now Tech Talk" using feeds in Internet Explorer.

I also downloaded a couple Podcasts from Angie's list: "How to Switch to Organic Lawn Care" and "Medical 'Gag Orders' for Patients".

This was a very interesting "thing" and I know that I will be subscribing to even more podcasts.

23 Things n'@-- Reflections Week 10

FIREFOX

Since I have used tabbed browsing in IE 7 and IE 8 Firefox tabbed browsing really isn’t any different to me. I tried “fashion your Firefox” and colorful tabs but found out that they are not compatible with all versions of Firefox. I did try the Christmas Scene and Red Cats (blue flavor) add-ons. The Christmas scene was cool but way too busy. I absolutely loved the Red Cats add-on—no surprise there ;-)

I don’t like a lot of add-ons in Firefox or IE because they tend to slow things down and most of them really aren’t that important to me. All in all Firefox is ok but I am still an IE Woman.

23 Things n'@-- Reflections Week 8

For my Week 8 assignment I set up a Twitter and a Facebook account. I previously did some work on Northland's twitter account--added the picture and linked it to our library blog. I'm not sure how I feel about twitter in the library but as far as for my personal use I think it is dumb. I did like Facebook but I can see where it could be very time consuming but also a lot of fun.

23 Things n'@-- Reflections Week 7 (R & R time)

My cat has declared my Boyd's bear on my bed as HIS property. As you will see in this video he is protecting his bear from mommy thief !

23 Things n'@-- Reflections Week 6

I have to admit that I picked databases that had some interest to me because I just couldn't wrap my mind around some of them.

The first database I choose was the Science Resource Center. I searched Clinical Microbiology since in my former life I worked as a Medical Technologist for almost 30 years. The articles are marked as Basic, Intermediate or Advanced. I also (in my former life and a city girl) worked in research in Agricultural Microbiology and among other things sewed canvas sheep feces bags. We also worked with cows so I had to look up Rumen Microbiology. You can download an mp3 of the article if you wish.

Next I went to EBSCO Animals and using the basic search entered Shark as my search term which gave me a list of different sharks. Since I am a visual person I went to visual search and got a listing of sharks in a column. You can select columns or blocks to display you information. I liked columns better. When you click on the name of the shark you get a summary in another column but if you click on more you get the entire article. When I added photographs to my search for sharks I didn’t get any returns. I didn’t like that there were no pictures of the sharks especially since it is geared toward school age children. I guess you have to go to Google images to get the pictures.

The last database I went to was Grove Dictionary Music Online and searched the Beatles and Bach. I know totally different genre but they both start with "B". You can print or email the information.
I just want to mention that I love NoveList especially the Read-alikes and Recommended Reads. If you haven’t been to that database then check it out.

23 Things n'@-- Reflections Week 5

I downloaded an eAudiobook from NetLibrary —“Plato and a platypus walk into a bar” by Thomas Cathcart and Daniel Klein. I downloaded it to my computer. I also downloaded a video—“Red Skelton: Christmas Dinner”. Ok, Ok I just gave my age away on the last one. Hmm, would you believe my parents told me about Red Skelton?
Anyway, I did this on Monday but I’m just getting around to posting this comment-told you I was terrible at keeping a “diary”.

Susan's Reflections Mascot

This is Clancy all snuggled up with his friends. He is the official mascot of Susan's Reflections!
Isn't he adorable?

My First Reflection

Actually this is the third Blog I have created. I designed two blogs for Northland Library an internal private staff blog and an external blog http://northlandlibrary.blogspot.com/ but this is my first personal blog. I’m not sure how I feel about this since I never got past a couple entries in a diary when I was a kid but I will try.

I think 23 things is a wonderful learning tool and I know I will enjoy participating in it.

Hmm-- I think it's time for tea!
